Gov. Dayton to hunt pheasants in Madelia on opening weekend

Gov. Mark Dayton will hunt pheasants in Madelia Saturday morning as part of his 3rd Annual Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener.

Dayton said he’s been a pheasant hunter for 50 years.

Like the governor’s fishing and deer hunting openers, the pheasant opener will involved much festivity in Madelia, as organizers try to harvest some public relations bounty, as well as birds.

The governor’s schedule includes:

  • Madelia Veterans Memorial Dedication, Friday, 4 p.m.
  • Governor’s Pheasant Opener Reception and Banquet, Friday, 6 p.m. social hour, 7 p.m. program at the Madelia American Legion and VFW
  • Pancake Breakfast, Saturday, 6 a.m., Madelia American Legion and VFW
  • Land Dedication for public hunting ceremony, Saturday,
    noon, Younger Brothers Wildlife Management Area
  • Hunters Lunch, Saturday, 12:30 p.m., at Wildlife Management Area.
