David Kleis of St. Cloud is one of the more than a dozen mayors from towns along the Mississippi River who are scheduled to attend a conference in Memphis this week that will examine economic progress along the river’s route.
The Mississippi River Economic Summit runs Wednesday and Thursday with sessions on how to make development along the river more sustainable.
The conference also will present early results of an economic impact report for the lower Mississippi River and a look at work being done with the U.S. Maritime Administration to facilitate a container-on-barge shipping program.
Those attending will also focus on public-private partnerships as a way to accomplish river infrastructure maintenance.
