Two Harbors Mayor Randy Bolen likes to ride in a golf cart during summer parades and festivals, saying it’s easier on the feet.
But the one he used last summer turned out to be stolen — from the city’s own municipal golf course.
A story in the Duluth News Tribune said police talked with the mayor about it, and it turns out he’d borrowed it from a city resident. Bolen’s been cleared, but charges are likely against the resident.
The cart had been stolen from the golf course two years ago; it had been painted and some of the identification numbers removed. But course employees recognized it.
Officials said the city’s municipal golf course, Lakeview National Golf Course, has been struggling in recent years. The cart was one of 40 that the course leases from a Savage, Minn., firm.
