Duluth Mayor Don Ness named Twin Cities Business ‘Person of the Year’

Twin Cities Business magazine looked outside the metro area for its 2013 Person of the Year and selected Duluth Mayor Don Ness.

“For this award, we considered several individuals and their achievements in 2013 and in recent years,” Twin Cities Business Editor-in-Chief Dale Kurschner said in a statement. “More than any other nominee, Don Ness stood out for exceptional leadership that has strengthened our state’s economy, business opportunities, and culture.”

Ness received the award Thursday night, on the day he turned 40.

The publication said:

Under Ness’ leadership, Duluth has emerged from the Great Recession and a devastating flood in 2012 with prospects brighter than it’s seen in decades. Ness first took office in 2008, ran unopposed in 2011, and was given a 90 percent job-approval rating last year by Duluth citizens.

I have dealth with dealt of politicians-

and Mayor Ness is the finest. More of a regular executive manager than a mayor. For the time I called Duluth home (which was problematic to Duluthians) I found the Mayor amazingly approachable and available to the citizens he served. I just hope his success does not mess him up. Remember 40 Don, great things are in store if you can maintain a firm grip.
