Visit St. Paul, the city’s convention and visitor’s bureau, has hired Terry Mattson as its new CEO and president.
Mattson had worked at the Duluth convention and visitors bureau for 28 years and was president there until he resigned in December.
He replaces Karolyn Kirchgesler in St. Paul; she left in August to run San Jose’s convention center and performing arts theaters.
In Duluth, Mattson had a staff of 12 and oversaw a budget of nearly $3 million. One of his big successes was planning and executing the Tall Ships Duluth event.
Mattson’s wife, Renee, recently resigned as executive director of Spirit Mountain Recreational Area in Duluth.
Mattson will start as president & CEO of Visit Saint Paul and the RiverCentre Authority on Feb. 3.
