Former House Minority Leader Marty Seifert, one of the Republicans working to get the endorsement to run against Gov. Mark Dayton, has selected state Rep. Pam Myhra to be his running mate.

Myhra, a Republican from Burnsville, is in her second term in the Legislature. She once worked as a CPA.

The official announcement is expected later Thursday morning.

Seifert told MPR: ““Just like me, she’s from a swing area that could vote either way. If the Republicans want to win in Minnesota, you have to have the votes of non-Republicans to win elections, and Pam has proven that.”

She beat a DFL incumbent in 2010 and has focused on education and tax policy while in office.

The story says she was unable to speak English when she came to Minnesota from South America as a young girl.
