Gov. Dayton delays hip surgery to attend Joan Mondale’s memorial

Dayton had scheduled the surgery for Thursday at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He’ll now have surgery next week.

Gov. Mark Dayton’s office says he postponing his scheduled hip surgery at the Mayo Clinic on Thursday so he can attend a memorial service for Joan Mondale.

Mondale, the wife of former Vice President Walter Mondale, died Monday. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday at the family’s church, the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis.

Dayton’s office said he will have the surgery next week. Afterward, his ability to travel will be restricted for up to three months, but his office says the procedure won’t otherwise affect his ability to govern.
