Gov. Mark Dayton’s is meeting Monday with state Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk and House Speaker Paul Thissen, as the Legislature prepares to convene on Tuesday.

Apparently, that’s a rare face-to-face meeting, as the governor is still recovering from a recent hip operation at the Mayo Clinic and is wearing a brace while confined to the Governor’s Residence on Summit Avenue in St. Paul.

Don Davis of the Forum Newspapers says the governor plans to spend more time on the telephone with legislators this year, while he recovers.

According to the story, the governor said:

“I expect I will be involved and as time goes on I will be involved more.”

“I wish I could be at the Capitol,” he said, adding that he hopes people understand he cannot do that due to surgery.

Only his mobility is affected, not his thinking, Dayton said.

“Fortunately, none of my brain cells reside in my hip,” he said.
