Minnesota has 864 solar-energy-based jobs, ranking 31st in the nation

Minnesota currently has about 860 jobs in the manufacturing and installation of solar energy, according to a report by the Solar Foundation.

The state ranks 31st in the nation for the number of solar jobs, the survey said.

Part of the report [PDF] also indicated that Minnesota is on track to increase solar employment by 28 percent in the next year, up to about 1,100.

Hanna Terwilliger of Environment Minnesota said in a statement:

“The sky’s the limit on solar. But, right now only a small fraction our energy comes from solar. To take it to the next level, we need to rally around a bigger vision on solar while defending and improving the programs that work today.”

Minnesota is only 31st in the U.S. for solar-industry employees? And here I thought we were so forward-looking, so “green.” I’m embarrassed for us.
