Minneapolis will host the 2014 National Conference of State Legislatures annual summit in August.

It’s going to be a great summer: Central Corridor light rail opens June 14 and will connect the state Capitol with the two downtowns; the MLB All-Star game is July 15, and now we’ll have the NCSL summit Aug. 19-22.

The organization, a support group for legislatures around the country, says it will bring 6,000 elected officials and staffers to town for the event, which has presentations, panels and trainings on subjects such as taxes, health care, transportation, veterans, natural resources and jobs.

The opening night reception will be at the Mill City Museum.
