National AFL-CIO president to speak on civil and labor rights at U of M’s Humphrey School

Richard Trumka, president of the national AFL-CIO, will speak Thursday at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs.

Trumka’s 5 p.m. speech on Feb. 20 at the Cowles Auditorium will examine the connection between labor rights and civil rights as the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 approaches.

Trumka’s political agenda includes working to:

  • Better ensure the right to vote
  • Guarantee unemployment insurance and a higher minimum wage
  • Make changes in criminal justice to reduce levels of incarceration.
