Sen. David Osmek named Minnesota Senate Republican whip

State Sen. David Osmek of Mound has been named Republican whip in the state Senate, and will be in charge of communicating with caucus members and keeping track of votes.

The whip position gained much visibility with the “House of Cards” Netflix series, in which Kevin Spacey’s character, Frank Underwood, served as a whip in Congress in the early going.

State Sen. David Hann, the minority leader, announced the appointment of Osmek, who is in his first term.

Said Osmek in a statement: “This is a great opportunity to help the Senate Republican Caucus operate in an efficient manner while keeping the lines of communication open among our Republican senators.”
