Brett Favre endorses U.S. Senate candidate — in Mississippi

The former Packer and Viking quarterback is featured in an ad supporting GOP Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran, who’s in a mud-slinging run-off election next week.

Brett Favre, the former Packer and Viking quarterback, has become a player in Mississippi politics with an endorsement of U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran in a messy GOP political battle.

Cochran faces a runoff election next week against state Sen. Chris McDaniel, in what’s being called a nasty, too-close-to-call race.

In the ad, paid for by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Favre says he’s “learned through football that strong leadership can be the difference between winning and losing.”

Sarah Palin and Rick Santorum are backing McDaniel.
