Supporters of the U.S. steel industry — including steel companies, unions and politicians — are rallying this morning in Virginia, Minnesota, in an effort to stop the import of cheap foreign steel.
Gov. Mark Dayton spoke at the morning rally in the Miners Memorial Building, where an estimated 1,500 people had gathered.
Organizers of the rally, which is bringing both sides of the industry — labor and management — to the table, are trying to raise public awareness of the issue of South Korea importing cheap steel to the U.S.
They are unhappy that U.S. Commerce Department issued a preliminary ruling earlier this year excluding South Korea from an “anti-dumping” ruling. A final determination is expected in July.
Other similar rallies have been held in other states with steel interests.
