The Knight Foundation says 579 applications were received for its Knight Green Line Challenge, which will distribute $1.5 million over the next three years for projects along the newly-opened Green Line light rail corridor in St. Paul.
Individuals, nonprofits, businesses and government entities were encouraged to enter the challenge. Projects submitted were required to “take place in or benefit at least one of six St. Paul neighborhoods along the Green Line: Downtown St. Paul, Frogtown/Thomas-Dale, Hamline Midway, St. Anthony Park, Summit-University, or Union Park.”
The point of the projects: “to help make Central Corridor neighborhoods in St. Paul even more vibrant places to live, work, play and visit.”
Members of the community now will read and rate the applications, and finalists will be announced on Aug. 26. Winners will be announced in October.
Information about the second year of the challenge will be announced in the spring.
