Joe Perske is running hard in 6th District race, with lots of 5Ks on the campaign trail

Joe Perske, the mayor of Sartell, is running hard in the 6th Congressional District, and hopes to garner more votes than ribbons.

Perske, an avid marathoner, is the DFLer in the race to replace Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann, who is not seeking re-election. He’ll face the winner of the Aug. 12 Republican primary, either GOP-endorsed Tom Emmer or Anoka County Commissioner Rhonda Sivarajah.

Perske’s campaign, working hard in a traditionally Republican district, are playing up the running while running theme.

They say he’s run more than 100 marathons in his career, winning 20 of them, with a PR of 2:17.52.

Last Sunday he ran an 8K in Big Lake, and will run a 5K in Delano prior to the 4th of July parade there. Other campaign races were 5Ks in Cold Spring on May 17; St. Francis on June 7; Sartell on June 13.

Running for Congress, they say, “will be the toughest race of his life.”
