Minnesota legislators will try to learn more Tuesday about a report from the Legislative Auditors office which found problems in the funding of purses for winning horses at Running Aces harness racing track in Columbus Township.
The report, issued earlier this month (PDF), found that money set aside for the horses was not enough, under state law, and that the Minnesota Racing Commission failed to adequately oversee the tracks contribution to purses.
Running Aces says that after it learned of the discrepancy, it made a payment to cover the shortage.
On Tuesday, a 1:30 p.m. hearing of the House Commerce and Consumer Protection Committee and Senate State & Local Government Committee will discuss the report. They will meet in Room 5 of the State Office Building.
Scheduled to appear at the hearing are:
- Legislative Auditor Jim Nobles
- Minnesota Racing Commission Executive Director Tom DiPasquale
- Jesse Overton, former chair of the Minnesota Racing Commission
