Maplewood girl’s healthy recipe of quinoa and beans wins trip to White House

Sophie Webster, a 12-year-old from Maplewood, is the Minnesota winner of the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge & Kids’ “State Dinner” contest, and will attend a Friday White House dinner hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama.

The contest, sponsored by, asks children 8-12 to create, with a parent, healthy lunch recipes. Winners were chosen from 1,500 entries.

The 50 winners and names of their creations are listed at the Epicurious website; later this month a free downloadable cook book with all their recipes will be available at the site.

The Star Tribune says she will enter the seventh-grade this fall at the Minnesota Math and Science Academy in Woodbury.
