Mary Cathryn Ricker, St. Paul teachers union president, elected to national union post

Mary Cathryn Ricker, president of St. Paul’s teachers union, has been elected executive vice president of the American Federation of Teachers at the group’s convention in Los Angeles.

She will step down as head of the St. Paul Federation of Teachers, and will be replaced by Denise Rodriguez, who moves up from vice president.

Ricker had been St. Paul union president since 2005, and has taught middle school in St. Cloud, South Korea and St. Paul. She’s also a member TakeAction Minnesota, the St. Paul Regional Labor Federation, the St. Paul Public Schools Foundation and the Twin Cities Strive Leadership Group.
