Hennepin County will hold an official opening of its newest Human Services office in North Minneapolis on Aug. 7.
The county is expanding access to its human services programs by opening regional offices around the county. This is the third regional office, joining already-opened sites in Brooklyn Center and Bloomington. Coming this fall will be an office in Hopkins, and in 2016 offices are scheduled to open in Northeast Minneapolis and south Minneapolis.
Officials say residents can go to the human services offices “to complete a broader needs assessment, apply for assistance and get referrals to other services, including those of local community agencies and faith groups.”
The North Minneapolis office, at 1001 Plymouth Av. N., has been operating for a while, but the official opening, with speeches and a ribbon cutting, will be Thursday, Aug. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m.
County officials said they have a long-term lease on the refurbished building, which used to be a printing plant.
In addition to the human services assistance, once a week, on Wednesdays, residents can use the North Minneapolis office to apply to renew a driver’s license or get a fishing license, apply for birth and death records, or conduct other transactions that used to require a trip downtown or to one of the suburban service centers.
