Whitney MacMillan, a Cargill heir, is listed as the richest person in Minnesota on a map that purports to list the richest person in each state.
It says he’s worth $5.3 billion.
Forbes says MacMillan “owns an estimated 9% of Cargill, the largest private company in America. He and five other secretive billionaire relatives together control the $137 billion agribusiness firm, which sells food, processes crops, trades commodities, sources ingredients and provides financial risk management.”
The Movoto map also shows three Walmart heirs as the richest people in three different states.
And in neighboring states, we have:
- Wisconsin, John Menard, founder of Menard’s: $7.7 billion
- Iowa, Harry Stine, who owns the largest private seed company: $3.1 billion
- South Dakota, T. Denny Sanford, banking and credit cards: $1.3 billion
- North Dakota, Gary Tharaldson, hotels: $900 million
