The Minnesota Gun Owners PAC has endorsed Republican Tom Emmer in his 6th District congressional race.

Earlier, the group endorsed Stewart Mills, the GOP candidate trying to unseat U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan in the 8th District.

The group has also endorsed DFL Attorney General Lori Swanson in her re-election bid because she signed an amicus brief in a SCOTUS case supporting an individual’s right to keep and bear arms for self-defense.

Endorsements in many other races are still being pondered.

PAC Chairman Mark Okern said Emmer “has demonstrated a commitment to preserving the civil rights of Minnesota’s gun owners and the Second Amendment over many years in public office.”

He notes that, while in the Legislature, Emmer voted to protect Second Amendment rights and voted against what the group calls “anti-gun bills.”

Emmer is seeking the seat in Congress currently held by Michele Bachmann — who’s not running again — and in November faces Democrat Joe Perske, the mayor of Sartell, and Independence Party candidate John Denney.

  1. Lori Swanson

I would vote for her based on her overall record, despite her possible position on gun ownership (there’s nothing on this issue on her Web site).
Remember, one can support the right to -own- a gun while at the same time supporting strict regulation of that ownership.

  2. This is a big plus for Mills; Iron Range Democrats are big 2A supporters. Emmer doesn’t really need the help and Swanson probably doesn’t want it.

    1. To be more precise

Rangers may support the Second Amendment as reinterpreted by the current Court; the rest of us support it as interpreted for most of the history of this nation.

  3. Woe is us.

What exactly IS an “anti-gun” bill?
A scary phrase, that goes undefined.

Do you know anybody that has their gun taken away?

That’s the panic is being sold. It never happens.
People run out & overbuy ammunition every time the hot button is pushed.

Good thing there’s no “sell by” date on bullets.
    Can you freeze them?

  4. She’s an AG.

Her job is to interpret the law, not impart bias.

    On that, she’s done well.
