Jim Hagedorn, the Blue Earth Republican running for Congress who defeated the party’s endorsed candidate in the August primary, finally has the official party endorsement.
At a 1st District Republican meeting in Mankato Monday night, a majority of delegates voted to grant the endorsement, reports the Rochester Post Bulletin.
Hagedorn had initially sought the party endorsement in April, but dropped out of the race when the delegates endorsed Army veteran Aaron Miller as their choice to take on incumbent U.S. Rep. Tim Walz, a Democrat.
But Hagedorn then changed his mind and jumped back into the race, saying Miller wasn’t campaigning aggressively enough. Hagedorn then upset Miller in the primary.
Although some area Republicans had balked at endorsing Hagedorn after he bucked the party process, most delegates Monday night agreed to get behind him.
