Emmer to serve on two House Foreign Affairs subcommittees

U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer, the newly-elected House member from Minnesota’s 6th District, said this week that he’ll serve on two subcommittees of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

He said he’ll be on the:

  • Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations
  • Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere

Emmer, who succeeds Michele Bachmann in the central Minnesota House seat, said of the assignments:

“Minnesota proudly boasts one of the country’s highest populations of new African immigrants, many of whom have grave concerns for their home countries and their loved ones still living there. These concerns are why I look forward to be sitting on the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations. By serving on this subcommittee, I can provide oversight of U.S. operations to combat Ebola, work with international organizations such as the United Nations and Peace Corps, and craft American policy to improve economic and political relations with the continent that is home to some of the world’s fastest growing economies.

“Minnesota is also home to a vibrant Hispanic population which is why I am happy to be serving on the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere. I also look forward to building and strengthening our ties with our Canadian neighbor to the North. Through this subcommittee, I will be able to provide oversight to all foreign assistance to the region and craft U.S. policy to deal with humanitarian crises, foreign agriculture and trade, and have regular meetings with foreign Ambassadors and dignitaries.”

Shouldn’t that be left to the Secret Service?

After all, they have the experience… Along with Sanford, of course.

Don’t buy this press release –

Is the republican leadership trying to hide him?
