DFL to elect officers Saturday; chair Ken Martin and others are running unopposed

Also expected to be re-elected are Vice Chairwoman Marge Hoffa and Secretary Jacob Grippen.

Leaders of the Minnesota DFL Party, fresh off November’s big victory for state constitutional officers and Sen. Al Franken — but the loss of the state House majority — meet Saturday to elect statewide officers.

The committee’s 10:30 a.m. business meeting is at Monticello Middle School.

Chair Ken Martin is running unopposed for his third two-year term. Also running unopposed are Vice Chairwoman Marge Hoffa and Secretary Jacob Grippen.

Two newcomers are on the slate and also running unopposed: Shivanthi Sathanandan for outreach officer and Ron Harris for treasurer.

  • Sathanandan, of Sri Lankan descent, is managing director of outreach for nonprofit Educators 4 Excellence. She’s been vice chair of the 4th Congressional District, state director, CD4 director and a delegate to the National Convention.
  • Harris, a former DFL state director, has worked for the city of Minneapolis in the Civil Rights and Community Planning and Economic Development departments and worked for Sen. Al Franken’s recent campaign.
