Coleman’s St. Paul ‘State of the City’ speech set for April 16

St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman said he will give his annual “State of the City” speech April 16 at the Ordway’s new Concert Hall.

Along with the 6 p.m. speech, Coleman says that local music groups will perform throughout the evening in the newly opened, $42 million, 1,100-seat concert hall, home to the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. It opened March 1; The New York Times calls it “inviting,” and “acoustically ideal.”

The musical lineup to accompany the Coleman speech will be announced closer to the event, but the mayor’s office did say that the Heiruspecs, a St. Paul rap/hip hop band, are on the card.

April is the month for “state of” speeches:

Gov. Mark Dayton is scheduled to give his State of the State to legislators in the House chambers on April 9, and Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges will give her State of the City address Thursday, April 2, at the American Swedish Institute.
