Gov. Mark Dayton has asked the Legislature to schedule a joint session on March 25 so he can deliver his State of the State speech.

Last year, Dayton had hip surgery in February, so he gave the speech later in the year, on April 30. He was in the midst of his successful campaign for a second term.

This year’s speech comes after the state’s projected budget surplus came in much higher than expected, raising the stakes in the legislative spending battle.
