Three candidates for a Ramsey County judgeship have been recommended to Gov. Mark Dayton by the Commission on Judicial Selection.
The candidates are: Richard Kyle, Jr., Stephen Smith and Melissa Milbert Wendland.
In the next few weeks Dayton is expected to make the appointment to fill vacancy on the court created by the retirement of Judge John B. Van de North, Jr.

Richard H. Kyle, Jr. is an attorney with Fredrikson & Byron. He’s president of the Minnesota State Bar Association and a former member of the Minnesota Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board.
Stephen L. Smith is an attorney working on employment, criminal, and civil rights cases and has served nearly 14 years as an Assistant State Public Defender. He’s a former Special Assistant Attorney General for the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office.
Melissa Milbert Wendland is an associate attorney at Robins Kaplan, specializing in medical malpractice, personal injury and products liability. She previously worked on business and intellectual property litigation.
