Kris Arneson

Minneapolis Police Chief Janeé Harteau has named Kris Arneson as the new Assistant Chief.

Arneson, a 30-year veteran of the department, will start July 5 on the new job, which involves overseeing day-to-day operations and 9-1-1 response.

She’s held many roles in the department, including inspector in the 1st and 5th precincts, homicide investigator and deputy chief of investigations. She also handled the implementation of recommendations from an assessment by the Department of Justice that called for management changes to identify and weed problem officers in an effort to regain public confidence.

In announcing the appointment, Harteau also cited Arneson’s community building strengths, including building of safety centers for the American Indian community and the Somali-American community.
