Rep. Rick Nolan confirmed over the holiday weekend that he’ll be running again in 2016.

He told the Star Tribune that he’s spending lots of time with his family after his daughter, Katherine, was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, but decided “the day after the election” that he’d run again next year.

There’d been speculation that Nolan, 71, might not run again because of his daughter’s health and a tough 2014 campaign against businessman Stewart Mills.

Nolan will seek a third term in this iteration of his congressional career. He’d previously been in Congress from 1975-1981.

He told the paper that he sees his daughter whenever possible:

I’m spending more time with her and the family. I’m not as hard at it on the campaign trail as I probably would be if it weren’t for that, but we’re getting a lot of special time together.
