Gov. Mark Dayton has appointed two new judges in southern Minnesota’s Third Judicial District.

Pamela King will replace Judge Robert Birnbaum in Rochester. 

She is an assistant public defender with the trial team of the Minnesota State Board of Public Defense, representing those charged with complex felonies. She’d earlier been an assistant public defender for the Third Judicial District and an associate attorney with Baker Law Offices. She has a B.A. from Drake University and a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law.

Carmaine Sturino will be based in Caledonia, in Houston County, and replace Judge James Fabian.

She is an assistant public defender in the Third Judicial District, representing the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for Public Defense. Previously, she’d been a solo practitioner and an assistant Winona county attorney. She earned her B.A. from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse and her J.D. from Drake University Law School. 

The Third Judicial District in southern Minnesota includes Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca, and Winona Counties.
