Committee in St. Paul will advise on soccer stadium development

A 24-member Snelling-Midway Redevelopment Community Advisory Committee has been selected to advise officials on plans for the area near a planned professional soccer stadium in St. Paul.

The soccer team’s owners plan to build a $120 million stadium on the vacant site that used to be a Metro Transit bus barn, at Snelling and I-94.

City officials believe the stadium will spur development in the Midway area and want input from the various interests in the area: hence the advisory committee.

The group was selected by Mayor Chris Coleman from a pool of 210 applicants and will be chaired by Julie Padilla of the St. Paul Planning Commission and Eric Molho, the Union Park District Council’s former land use committee chair.

Committee members, the mayor’s office said, come “from six St. Paul neighborhoods, with expertise in everything from business and economic development, to higher education and organized Labor, to city planning and affordable housing, to community organizing and advocacy.”
