Gov. Dayton to miss deer opener

Gov. Mark Dayton has cleared his schedule to be with his ailing father, Bruce Dayton, who is 97.

Lt. Gov. Tina Smith filled in for Dayton Thursday night at the banquet for the annual Governor’s Deer Opener this weekend in Mountain Iron.

Smith also attended the Thursday groundbreaking for Hwy. 53 on the Iron Range.

Dayton’s office also announced that next year’s Governor’s Deer Opener will be Nov. 3-5 in Breezy Point and Pequot Lakes.
