St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis will attend a conference in Paris next month on river health.
He’s one of seven U.S. mayors representing the Mississippi River cities who’ll attend the international conference that will look at water quality and economic development. The meetings are part of a larger U.N. conference on climate change.
Kleis told the St. Cloud Times that the terror attack last week won’t deter his plans, although he’s been told to expect tightened security and long lines.
“One of the aspects of terrorism is terrorists win when people change what they do because of these acts of terrorism,” Kleis told the paper. “We need to have resolve to root that out anywhere in the world but make sure we continue to live free. The liberty they attack is something that we must defend.”
He’s attending the conference as a member of the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative.
While he is in France, Kleis plans to visit Saint-Cloud, France, near Paris, which had a city-partnership with St. Cloud, Minnesota, in 1956.
