Key senator worried about possible scalping of free tickets for Obama inauguration

Ticket scalping of inauguration tickets?

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., is so concerned about the possibility of the free tickets being hawked on Internet sites that she’s crafting a bill for consideration during Congress’ lame-duck session that would make it a federal crime to sell tickets to the Jan. 20 swearing-in of President-elect Barack Obama.

“Feinstein, who chairs the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, said she foresees overwhelming demand for the 240,000 available tickets and has heard reports they may be sold for as much as $40,000 online,” she told the Associated Press in an interview.

The free tickets are to be distributed through congressional offices, and in-person pickup will be required.
