Obama advisers propose moving Gitmo prisoners to U.S. for trial

Associated Press reporters Matt Apuzzo and Lara Jakes Jordan report that President-elect Obama’s advisers are crafting a proposal to ship possibly hundreds of terror suspects from Guantanamo Bay prison to the U.S. to face criminal trials. During the campaign, both Barack Obama and John McCain had vowed to shut down the prison. “It would have to be some sort of hybrid that involves military commissions that actually administer justice rather than just serve as kangaroo courts,” says Laurence Tribe, a Harvard law professor and Obama legal adviser.
