The process of presidential transition begins in a poorly-lit basement

Time magazine Washington bureau correspondent Michael Scherer reports on the first public briefing by transition overseer John Podesta from the basement of an unremarkable D.C. office building: “Obama, Podesta and their team must build a government in just 77 days, if you count both New Year’s and Christmas… Podesta said that he expects to spend about $12 million on the effort.” The money will pay for 450 staffers in Chicago and Washington to create dossiers on applicants seeking more than 2,500 presidential appointments.
