Franken gets award for work with service members

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Al Franken will be in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, with actress Renee Zellweger, to receive a merit award for his work with deployed and wounded service members.

The award will be handed out at the USO of Metropolitan Washington’s annual awards dinner at the Ritz Carlton in Pentagon City.

According to a press release on the matter, “Franken is a veteran of numerous USO overseas tours, as well as several hospital handshake tours at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) and Bethesda Naval Hospital.”

Zellweger will be participating in a portion of the event, titled a “Special Salute to our Nation’s Heroes.”
