WASHINGTON, D.C. — And a bit of historical trivia … The 95th Congress (1977 – 1979)  was the last time there was a filibuster-proof majority in the U.S. Senate. At the time, the Democrats were riding high with a 62-seat majority in the Senate and Jimmy Carter as president.
