WASHINGTON, D.C. — Minnesota Democratic Reps. Keith Ellison, Collin Peterson and Jim Oberstar appear to be early supporters of state Sen. Tarryl Clark’s campaign to be the DFL nominee in the 6th District.
According to third quarter campaign finance reports, the three Democratic representatives gave a total of $5,000 to Clark’s campaign in September. Ellison’s campaign contributed $1,000 while Peterson and Oberstar’s campaigns gave $2,000 each.
Their campaigns did not contribute to Dr. Maureen Reed, who is Clark’s competition for the DFL ticket in the 6th District — a seat held by Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann.
Other Minnesota Democratic lawmakers, including Reps. Tim Walz and Betty McCollum and Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, did not give either candidate money in the third quarter.
Both Reed and Clark have drawn money from other political heavyweights, including from members of the Dayton, Pohlad and Cowles families.
The DFL has not yet endorsed a candidate for the seat.
Clark reported raising $308,016 this quarter while Reed reported raising $134,935.
Reed, however, still has more cash on hand with $311,416 reported.
But Clark, who only started her campaign about three months ago, is not far behind, with a reported $269,687 in the bank.
