Kelliher and Emmer launch new media campaigns

With an email sent out close to midnight, Margaret Anderson Kelliher’s campaign announced a new smart phone application.   The DFL-endorsed candidate for governor launched an iPhone app months ago, but now the app is available on Blackberry, Android and the web.  The campaign noted their mobile strategy fits their grassroots effort saying “adding this application to our arsenal will help us connect even better voters, volunteers, and donors.”  Although Kelliher will follow primary election challengers Matt Entenza and Mark Dayton on getting ads on TV, she beats them in this new media approach.  The Strib’s Rachel Stassen-Berger concluced “until recently it lacked some utility. The only events on it were the primary and general election days. It now includes an updated events calendar.”

Meanwhile, the Republican-endorsed Tom Emmer “relaunched”  The campaign says “you may have noted that the media and our opponents from other political parties have been playing fast and loose with the truth.”  We usually hear the media bashing as Republican candidates seek their party’s endorsement, not so much after the fact.  In fact, I had many delegates at the MN Republican Convention approach us and thank us and other members of the media for our fair non-partisan approach.  Emmer’s press release drops the line Jesse Ventura used in his campaign referring to “politics as usual” and adding “Whenever a candidate threatens to shake up the establishment the establishment fights back.”
