A couple of new media tongue twisters arrived in our email boxes today with word of a Twibbon and Twitter Town Hall. First, to the Twibbon. After some research my Capitol colleagues and I decided to describe it as an electronic bumper sticker. Readers feel free to add to or disagree with our definition. DFL-endorsed candidate for governor Margaret Anderson Kelliher urged supporters to “Add the Kelliher Twibbon to your Facebook profile” further declaring they are “using social media effectively to get out the vote.”
Next, Independence Party endorsed Tom Horner announced a “Twitter Town Hall” forum to answer questions about Minnesota’s future. Horner touts this as bringing “his campaign directly to citizens throughout the state.” The forum will happen “LIVE online via USTREAM.” But the location of the event might be a bigger draw, Brit’s Pub in Minneapolis on Wednesday, July 28th. Social media expert Mykl Roventine will moderate. He’s the co-coordinator of Social Media Breakfast, Minneapolis/St Paul, co-founder and organizer of Ignite Minneapolis and Unsummit. It was another interesting day in the new media political landscape we’re all learning as we go.
