Democrat Mark Dayton held an afternoon press conference the day after the election.  He didn’t declare victory, but noted he is ahead and expects to stay ahead through a recount in the governor’s race.  Dayton was serious and said “the recount process should not be political.”  He added that “Minnesota voters delivered split decision for divided government” with Democratic constitutional officers and a Republican legislature.  Dayton will launch transition planning right away but wouldn’t name any people who could serve on a transition team.

Republican gubernatorial nominee Tom Emmer did not hold a press conference but released the following statement regarding the partial results of Tuesday’s Gubernatorial Election: “With nearly 100% of precincts reporting, this race is still too close to call. The margin that currently separates Senator Dayton and me is currently within the automatic recount trigger,” said Tom Emmer. “There is a process in law that will ensure that we arrive at a conclusive result, ensuring that all valid votes are counted and the will of the voters is met.”
