Secretary of State Mark Ritchie signed several election certificates for races that went through recounts, including one for Governor-elect Mark Dayton. With no election contests filed in court, Ritchie could put his pen to paper making the election winners official. “It’s a big relief” Ritchie said and added “It makes me proud to be a Minnesotan.”
The secretary of state said he has heard from his colleagues around the country congratulating him on a hand recount that closely reflected the original election night results. Ritchie got emotional as he stated “I feel very fortunate to be the secretary of state.” The DFLer would still like to see the current 1/2 of 1% threshold for an automatic recount lowered, as did his GOP opponent Dan Severson. A few legislative certificates were signed in addition to the governor and lieutenant governor’s.
