Flooding and budget and bonding bills

As flood waters rise around the state, lawmakers are waiting to see what their response will look like.  This week’s focus from the legislature is all about the budget, as Republicans passed  plans cutting billions and finding reforms.  Governor Mark Dayton renewed his call for a bonding bill for state construction projects beyond flood mitigation, calling jobs an emergency as big as flooding.

Dayton also said “building a ‘people’s stadium’ will provide good jobs for several thousand Minnesotans.”  GOP Majority Leader Senator Amy Koch said she’d like the governor to stop criticizing and engage on the budget bills “let’s build our levees together and not wait until major flood stage in May.”  We’ll look into how flooding, the budget and bonding bill are all intersecting tonight on Almanac.
