Why ag bill is always first

An agriculture bill signing bipartisan love fest is not unusual.  The “ag” bill is usually the first budget bill completed, regardless of political control of the legislature and the governor’s office.  Tonight on Almanac  I’ll explore where this tradition comes from.  Lawmakers from across the aisle point out agriculture is a very small portion of the budget, but maybe more importantly many who serve on the committee say it’s truly a bipartisan or even nonpartisan committee.  Lawmakers say it’s more about geography and rural members banding together for the state’s second largest industry.  See more of the candid reasons behind Capitol’s first budget compromise of the legislative session tonight on Almanac.
