No doubt most of you already had marked your calendars to note that this year is the 140th anniversary of Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of the Elements.
Forgot? Not to worry. The Minnesota Section of the American Chemical Society is commemorating the event and National Chemistry Week with a celebration at the Minneapolis Central Public Library on Saturday.
Kids and their parents are invited to join volunteer chemists on a scavenger hunt for elements. There will be answers to pressing questions such as, “Am I magnetic?” And there will be prizes.
Here are the details for the event, which is free and open to everyone: Saturday, Oct. 17, 2 – 4 p.m., Minneapolis Central Public Library, 300 Nicollet Mall, Children’s Room.
Additional background information and educational materials about chemistry and National Chemistry Week are available on the websites for National Chemistry Week and the Minnesota Section, American Chemical Society.
