St. Paul becomes a Yellow Ribbon Community for supporting military service members

St. Paul joins dozens of other communities in the state’s Yellow Ribbon program, which recognizes cities, counties and companies that support military service members and their communities.

The city will be inducted into the club tonight at Midway Stadium, before the Saints baseball club holds its season opener.

Gov. Mark Dayton will be there to honor St. Paul, along with Blaine, West St. Paul, Suburban Ramsey County and Hennepin Technical College. The creation of a comprehensive network to connect businesses, resources and employers to the support of service members and their families is required to get the designation.

The ceremony starts at 6:30 p.m. and it will give Mayor Chris Coleman a chance to show the governor, firsthand, how faded the stadium has become and why St. Paul should get $27 million from the new local development pot of money created by the Legislature last week.
