No DFL endorsement for three Minneapolis City Council members

Three DFL Minneapolis City Council members failed to get their party endorsements at party conventions Saturday.

The Star Tribune noted: “Growing minority populations, redrawn districts and council policy played a major role in the day’s events …”

Here’s what happened Saturday:

6th Ward: Abdi Warsame got support from the area’s East African population to get the endorsement after Council Member Robert Lilligren dropped out early Saturday.

10th Ward: Urban planner Lisa Bender won endorsement, leading to questions of whether Council Member Meg Tuthill would continue to run for re-election.

12th Ward: No endorsement was made as Andrew Johnson challenged Council Member Sandy Colvin Roy.

Not all council members went home empty-handed: 7th Ward Council Member Lisa Goodman and 11th Ward Council Member John Quincy were endorsed at their conventions. Both were unopposed.

On ward 10, the main thing is that CM Tuthill said she’d abide by the endorsement. Typically, in modern english usage, that means you won’t run against an endorsed candidate.
