Kurt Dornfeld, who included the nickname “Dirty Kurty” on his official filing papers, has filed to run for mayor of St. Paul.
He is a street-maintenance worker for the city. His campaign push will be to improve city street maintenance, he said Monday.
Dornfeld, who’s never run for public office before, is the third candidate to challenge incumbent Mayor Chris Coleman in the November election.
Also running is perennial candidate Sharon Anderson and landlord Tim Holden. Filings close Tuesday.
Asked why he’s running, Dornfeld said:
“I see some things happening within the city. The streets are bad and everybody pays taxes but it never gets better.”
He said he’s worked for the city public works department for 10 years. City officials confirmed that he is a city street-services worker. Dornfeld said he doesn’t have a campaign organization set up yet: “I’ve been real busy with seal coating now in the Highland area,” he said.
“But in the next couple weeks I’ll start getting a website set up.”
He said he isn’t running with party affiliation:
“I’m just a regular person. I believe in some of things Republicans do and some of the things Democrats do, but I’m not affiliated with either of them.”
